What does a typical client engagement look like?
No two GJC projects are exactly alike, because every organization and situation is different. But there are certain elements that are common to most of our engagements.
We begin work with a new organization by developing a good sense of what and who the client (individual, team or organization) is. This orientation and assessment process may range from a day or so of one-on-one conversations with key players, to a rigorous, formal organizational assessment involving carefully designed written surveys, focus groups, and individual and team interviews.
We often conclude this first phase with a one to two day off-site retreat with the senior team or group. At this off-site, we share what we’ve learned from our assessment activities, discuss how our findings relate to the group’s experience in the organization, introduce participants to basic principles and practices of collaborative leadership, and begin designing together the project plan.
The project plan could entail any combination of the following activities:
- Providing executive coaching to select individuals
- Providing team coaching to the management team and/or other teams or departments
- Training managers and employees in the fundamentals of Collaborative Leadership
- Designing and leading a focused process to address a particular performance problem within a department or a cross-functional team
- Resolving conflicts: Mediating constructive resolution between individuals or groups involved in chronic or deeply entrenched disputes, to produce clear, achievable commitments and increased trust and accountability
- Facilitating a strategic formulation and planning process
- Facilitating development of organizational or team vision and mission
- Customizing and integrating our Collaborative Performance Assessment System (CPASTM) which provides the framework for developing and managing cross functional performance throughout the organization.
Depending on the size and nature of the organization, our engagements may last anywhere from several months to several years. We tend to enjoy long and rewarding relationships with our clients, who value our focus, strategic orientation, and commitment to their success.
